Our chests of drawers are made to order at the bench in Mickfield, Suffolk. Dovetailed drawers running on timber bearers, with cross-banding where you want it. A chest that will outlast the room it stands in.
Nothing on this page is a stock item and nothing is bought in. Every piece is drawn before it is made, cut from boards chosen for that commission, finished in our own shop and delivered by us.

Each pattern is offered in 6 sizes. Every size and every timber is priced on this page — choose the model and size, then the timber, and that is the price you pay. Prices run from £3,210 to £5,360 including VAT.
Fitting a real room
Rooms are rarely square and floors are rarely level. Standard sizes are a starting point; if a piece has to sit in an alcove, under a beam or against a wall that leans, tell us and we will draw it to fit. A change of dimension on a standard pattern usually costs no more than the nearest listed size.
Construction
Carcases are made from solid timber and boards chosen for grain and colour. Drawers are made to run properly and to keep running. Every commission is drawn before it is made, and the finish is matched across pieces so a later addition belongs with the first.
Timber and finish
Every one of our chests of drawers is priced in four timbers — oak, cherry, mahogany and walnut. Oak is the house timber and the price most people quote from. Cherry warms and darkens as it ages, mahogany holds a deep even colour, and walnut carries the most figure and the highest price. If you are choosing between them, order timber samples first — £10 each, posted free, and the cost comes off your order. Colour is very hard to judge on a screen and easy in your own light against your own walls.
Ordering, lead time and delivery
Order online and you pay a 40% deposit. We then draw your piece and send the drawings to you, and the remaining 60% is invoiced before delivery. The deposit is non-refundable and the order cannot be cancelled once it is paid.
Making normally takes twelve weeks from approved drawings, and up to sixteen weeks when the workshop is busy. We confirm your date when you order. See delivery and fitting for how pieces arrive and what we need at your end.

Guarantee and aftercare
Solid timber moves with the seasons. It takes up moisture in a damp autumn and gives it back over a winter of central heating, and a well-made piece is built to allow for that rather than to fight it. Small movement across a wide top is normal and is not a fault.
Everything we make is guaranteed against defects in materials and workmanship. If something is wrong we will put it right. Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are unaffected by anything on this page.
Looked after, this is furniture that outlasts the room it was made for. Keep it out of the direct line of a radiator, wipe spills rather than leaving them, and wax or oil it once or twice a year depending on the finish. We will tell you which finish yours has and what it wants.
Seeing it before you order
You are welcome at the workshop in Mickfield by appointment, to see pieces on the bench and handle the timbers rather than judging them from a screen. If you cannot get to Suffolk, order samples and we will talk it through on the telephone. Most commissions start with a conversation about a room rather than a product code.
